Water
is a precious resource for many Oklahomans. Too much or too little
can
severely
impact agri-business,
reservoir
management and
even municipal water supplies. Because regional drought or deluge
is a frequent part of Oklahoma's climate, OCS provides an expanded
suite
of products to monitor our water and precipitation conditions.
Water shortages and excesses can occur on many time scales. In
general (but not always) fire conditions respond most quickly
to precipitation
patterns, followed by horticulture, agriculture, streamflow
and reservoir storage, which can take many months to show an impact.
It is not uncommon
for a very wet week to be embedded within a long-term dry spell.
Our maps and tables provide information across many time
scales
to meet
the needs of Oklahoma's diverse interests.
For each timescale, a set of six maps provide a quick look at
conditions across the state. A detailed table also provides
information about
how the current event fits into history, and how well it
matches a smiliar event from the past.

the Oklahoma Climatological Survey and ask to speak to a scientist
with the Climate
Information Group. |
