For Oklahomans

The Oklahoma Climatological Survey is a research unit of the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to education and service for state taxpayers, OCS is required to conduct studies of climate and weather phenomena of significant socio-economic importance to Oklahoma. In addition, OCS evaluates the significance of natural and man-made, deliberate and inadvertent changes or modifications in important features of the climate and weather affecting the state. Through OCS's outreach programs, this information is reported to those agencies and organizations in the state that are likely to by affected by such changes or modifications.

Research expertise at OCS includes meteorologists and climatologists who understand the variability of Oklahoma's climate, from short-lived dynamical processes to longer-term interactions of the atmosphere with land and vegetation. Other researchers study the societal implications of and interactions with climate, from the economic impact of new weather observing systems on decision makers to the dissemination of critical drought information through institutions.

Because our research team is small, we partner with other physical, natural, and social scientists across Oklahoma and beyond. The research conducted leads to better understanding of our changing environment, helping us to save lives and property, reduce costs, and better educate the next generation of leaders.
